very exciting…

I came to US when I was 16, went through schools here and have worked for NASA and Northrup Grumman before co-funded and crashed my first startup during the .com gold rush in late 90.  After the the .com bubble burst in Y2K, I went back to Taiwan and worked there for almost two years, I was 25 years old.

Have worked in both east and west cultures within the first 5 years in my career, I have seen a lot and learnt a lot.  One of the most popular publication among university students  in Taiwan,「講義雜誌」, thought that my experience is valuable and worth sharing that they had interviewed me and later published 3 pages long article on their July 2005 publication, titled 「小留學生張德仁的故事」, if you can read Chinese click here to read the full article online.

After my first kid, Ariel, was born in 2001, my wife wanted us to come back to the States so we can raise Ariel in a better environment, so we came home in the summer of that year.  I found a job as a consultant at an US Fortune 300 company in Baltimore.  While my friends went to Asia one after another to explore the unlimited possibilities of the booming Asian market, I have been with the same company for the past 8 years, the longest job I ever held, good pay with great benefit.  So, to my friends who went back to Asia, I seen to have wasted my experience from the first 5 years of my career in exchange for a stable job in US.  That assessment would be true if we didn’t have the Internet.

The Internet changed everything.  With the Internet, I can read and follow the newest market trend, obtain information and communicate to people far way in real-time.  With the Internet, my physical location become irrelevant.  With the Internet, I can startup web sites that serves people in timezone 12 hours away and THAT is exactly what I did!  I found the largest peer-to-peer and social networking websites for English learner in Taiwan: http://English.com.tw and http://English.tw.  Thanks to Internet, I didn’t waste my experience and I did waste anytime.

I just finished a week long trip to Asia and an offer letter was already in my inbox before I landed on Dullas!  It seems that my entrepreneur spirit combined with my multicultural experience and multilingual ability are quite in demand.  Very exciting!
